The Deliberation of the Jevrethor was a meeting between the Anointed, the Masters of The Vanguard, and the heads of each of the Temples and Academies to debate the then current situation with the Jevrethor, as well as the current status of Magic in Althas.

Prior History

After Diasair Losjefi spreads the gift of magic among Men around 465-472 MA, it was soon made obvious that some were able to cast magic with greater ease, and in greater volume, then others. Some were even born with the innate sense to cast magic at birth: they are known as Jevrethor. Gorandel, witnessing this raw power, began to capture and mistreat Jevrethor in experiments and studies outside of the public eye. The Guardians, aware of the Gorandi actions, divulged these secrets to the other Anointed kingdoms. In Late 526 MA, this very meeting occurred to discuss about these current events with the Jevrethor.

Accusations towards Gorandel

Many in the meeting accuse Gorandel of the mistreatment of Jevrethor, as well as studying them to advance their own kingdom's understanding of Magic. Gorandel insists that they did not mistreat the Jevrethor.

Evidence is presented that, although many (but not all) Jevrethor are sheltered from the prejudice of many common people, they are pitifully ignorant of the real world, even illiterate. Meanwhile, in other locations, they are mistreated and suffer harsh conditions as Gorandel assesses how threatening they may be. By keeping the Jevrethor secret from the common people, Gorandel has allowed prejudiced ideas to build up throughout many areas, especially in the outskirts of the region as well as Narthendar.

The Vanguard assert that, while there are dangers, the Jevrethor should be taught and raised like any normal Najiros: that they should not be left blindly ignorant to the world nor be objects of study, but instead be given the freedom to choose their own fate. Also, the people should know of them as they can practice magic of all kinds (to avoid the build up of prejudice).

Magic for the masses

Various Temple authorities bring up the subject of magic: was the offering of magic to the people a good, or evil, deed? Some assert that, while Losjefi did disobey, magic in itself is not evil. The Jevrethor are simply gifted individuals, not inherently good or evil.

Others, especially those from Driesefair and Lamniemalos, assert that, while magic isn’t evil, the distribution of the gift was and that there was, and is, a price to pay. They call the Jevrethor the curse of the Diasair’s sin, a punishment for his actions. They cite stories of Jevrethor discoveries after violent act to support their claim.

Disagreements arise among the Kings, the heads of the Temples and Academies, and The Vanguard. Anorthile, Nosmalos, and Vishethas stand with The Vanguard and defer to them in the area of magic. Driesefair and Lamniemalos stand with Gorandel. Narthendar’s various governors and regents (associated with Driesefair and Lamniemalos) are divided on this and neither kingdom forces the decision on the region, allowing flawed conceptions and prejudice to accumulate.

After the council

The disagreements amongst the council members will go on to cause The Schism.
