SO:Prelude

The Prelude is the first planned public release of The Lays of Althas: Sundered Order.

Summary

The Prelude is planned to be developed by Epoch Games as the first public release of the game. We want to begin development immediately after completion of the Demo, and once the Prelude is near completion, we plan to start a Kickstarter, and advertise/promote our work. We hope that once we receive enough funds from Kickstarter that we’ll then have the money to get the funds we need to pay for all our financials (web hosting, incorporation and trademarks, and software licenses), as well as compensate team members for their work. Once we are able to pay for all 3D Artists to have software licenses, we can release the Prelude without any software legal troubles.

The Prelude is centered around the Battle of Bordrima, where Clan Wulfas invades the town of Bordrima, and the player character (Cédrisc) having only a short period of time (about a week of in-game days) to make a series of choices in his life before the Battle erupts. A post-Battle story, where the new player character (Bordrand) is also currently planned.

Story

You play as Cédrisc, the younger son of Handspor. You have a wife (Morgen) and a daughter ((SO:Characters_(Bordrima)|Selen]]). Your family, House Hafocstrynd, runs a water mill in Bordrima, and currently competing with the larger water mill of the Massereas Faereld. Your House is also entrusted with leading the defense of Bordrima; Cédrisc is the Captain of the Guard.

The Massereas Faereld have made certain trade deals with The Sómstrynd Clans that run through the Bordrima office. Part of that deal is lobbying for Bordrima's independence in order to keep Thenodar patrols out of the area, as such patrols would threaten human trafficking and smuggling lanes used by Clan Wulfas of The Sómstrynd Clans. As Thenodar pushes north and events start to go sideways, the Massereas Faereld branch heads back out of the deal, and Clan Wulfas attacks Bordrima in retaliation (becoming the Battle of Bordrima). The Clans hope to either plunder or occupy the town, to deny a strategic and resource acquisition by Thenodar. In Thenodar, the raids are part of The Sómstrynd Clans' war effort, but the attack on Bordrima is an act of revenge by the son of the Helm of Wulfas (Cédrisc should have the opportunity to kill this character).

Release

Only after a successful Kickstarter, or only after enough funds are acquired for software licenses to be paid.

Release should require payment. That monetary payment we are unsure of at this time.
