The Night Stones are devices created by the Drevril with the purpose of bringing chaos to the Men of Jevreth.

History

It is currently unknown how, or when, the Night Stones were created.

The first Night Stones were found in Althas around 397-402 MA.

Mechanics

The Night Stones that have been discovered are made of various gem-like materials (ones that are alien to Althas and Dritameshi).

Every Night Stone contains a single avatar. The avatar is an "artificial intelligence" that is created with varying goals and levels of aptitude between them.

Known Night Stones

This is a listing of documented Night Stones that have been found, their powers, where they were found, and what they fulfilled:

Name Powers Current Location History
[Thrandole's Stone]

(named after King Thrandole)

Heightens the user's ability to lead, but drives a Man's desire for power in the process. Location unknown.
  • 402 MA: After The War of Men and Beasts, all of the Night Stones are destroyed. Thrandole of Narthendar keeps one for himself.
  • 420-435 MA: Along the ridge of Voshellas, a new capital is built: Thovairozil, and the halls of Zalothairar (“Halls of Terror”)
  • 445 MA: King Thrandole, under the sway of the Stone, enslaves his people and launches a sudden attack on his fellow Anointed kingdoms. Thus begins the Second War.
  • 465 MA: After Thrandole's, this Night Stone is lost and never heard from again.
[Basech Stone]

(Basech means "Dark" in Noralar)

The avatar of this stone is a master of deception. Seeks worship of itself. One of the Esheliros Basech.
  • 406 MA: It asks for the village people to worship it in exchange for secret knowledge of what others are thinking. It feeds them lies about their surrounding villages. They eventually attack another small village nearby and kill them. The Stone forewarns them of the King of Anorthile's approach. The Stone instructs them to take it with them to the Esheliros Basech.
[North Narthendar Stone]

(named after the realm of the Lords that hold it)

The avatar is nothing but lies: it will promise its bearer all their desires, but will fulfill none of them. The greater the desires of the bearer, the greater the potential for self-harm for the bearer. Location unknown.
  • 852-870 MA: Three ship fleets (Gorandel, Vishethas, and North Narthendar) are searching for Night Stones in the Esheliros Shûvrall.
    • This Night Stone is discovered to be hidden inside a deep cavern. It is in the hands of a Helrúna that lives on one of the islands. The forces subdue the beast and take the stone. It is placed on a Gorandel ship to be transported back to Gorandel to be destroyed.
    • The ship carrying the Stone is raided by a raider vessel hired by Lord Bregdan. The Stone is brought to the Lord who then sails for Narthendar with the stone.
    • Lord Bregdan goes mad brooding over the Stone’s power. His use of the Stone causes a storm to emerge that sends his ship off course along the northern coast of Narthendar and sinks somewhere in the northern sea.
  • 871-901 MA: Within this time, the stone washes up on the small island chain north of Narthendar. A tribe of former northern Narthendi who live there find and worship the stone.
  • 902-903 MA: Bregdan's son, Staelan, discovers Bregdan's Stone to have washed up on the small island chain north of Narthendar. He kills the tribes who have it and take the stone back with him to North Narthendar.
  • 932 MA: After Wealcan's death, his son Folgere learns of the Stone’s location.
    • He retrieves the stone and uses it to enslave the jevrethor that he holds in North Narthendar.
