The continent of Althas

Althas is one of the three main continents of Jevreth. The islands and archipelagos that can be found to the North, East, West, and South of the mainland are also considered to be part of the continent.

Althas means "Altar" in Noralar.

History

The name "Althas" has its earliest origins in one of the first true sermons of the Diasairos. It was early in the history of the Kingdoms that many people began to criticize those who did not make pilgrimages and prayers at the seven "holy" places (the places where each of the seven people originated from). The Diasair rebuked them:

"But thus saith The One: Why do you condemn your brothers? If he journeys not to holy places and yet you do, what advantage do you gain? Do you not know that my eyes and ears are in every place, to see the suffering of those who call to me and to hear their prayers? Do you think that I dwell only in holy places, exalted by the words of men? Nay, for I say to you that all the heavens are given to me for a habitation, and I am in every place. And behold, all the lands are the altar of my praise and this world have I given you as a gift, that you may know my glory."

And so the people called the lands Althas, which is "Altar" in Noralar, and the world they called "Jevreth," for it was said to be a gift to Men.

Mainland Regions

Althas is made up of five different regions on its mainland, all with varying biomes and climates:

• Anorthile
• Driesefair
• Gorandel
• Lamniemalos
• Narthendar
• Vithile

Off of the mainland continent are two large islands (which are considered regions as well due to their size):

Seas bordering Althas

This is a listing of the seas surrounding Althas:

• Álbrim: Sea south of the Althas continent, surrounding the Esheliros Basech. Álbrim means "Fire Sea" in Old Maelan.
• Ísbrim: Sea north of the Althas continent, surrounding Caldaega. Ísbrim means "Ice Sea" in Old Maelan.
• Morgenbrim: Sea east of the Althas continent, surrounding Nosmalos and the Esheliros Bavem. Morgenbrim means "Sunrise Sea" in Old Maelan.
• Setbrim: Sea west of the Althas continent, surrounding Vishethas and the Esheliros Shûvrall. Setbrim roughly means "Sunset Sea" in Old Maelan.
