Equipment represents what a Character is wearing. "Equipment Slots" represents the various types of items that can be equipped on a character: clothing, armor, weapons, shield, etc. Equipment is separate from Inventory.

The Player Character can click the F button when the Player Character's Cursor is over an NPC.
